Backcountry Adventure Time with Finn the dog

Based in Bozeman, MT

A chronicle of me and my dog’s “backcountry” adventures across Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. This is a place to document all of the trails and adventures that my dog and I have done, in my 2010 FJ Cruiser.

I drive a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 6-speed manual transmission. According to Wikipedia, this is the rarest trail teams special edition at only 1,500 produced. Being that only around 10% were 6-speeds, it’s reasonable to say that it’s one of around 150. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t 4 others in Bozeman that are the same exact color and year I have. Does not stop me from dragging through the rocks. People love the FJC or hate it. Don’t call it a 4 Runner.

My FJ is not really anything special, just a lot of off the shelf parts, but it’s gone some places, seen some things. It’s being built up, slowly. “BOUGHT NOT BUILT” In my opinion, the FJC is the single greatest vehicle available in the US for my purpose. (Notice I said available in the US.) You will not believe what a stock FJ will do with good tires and that little A-Trac button.

I’m not an “overlander”, only a weekend warrior. 3 days out max to get back to the daily grind on Monday morning. I may do longer trips in the future, but for now this is ideal. DOING MY PART TO PERPETUATE TOYOTA YUPPIE STEREOTYPES TO THE JK CROWD. But I’ll wheel with anyone. EVEN ROVERS!

I’m a CPA and I work too much. I do not have a life from January to mid-April. I’m a Montana native and grew up in Great Falls. I have a pretty sweet view of the Bridger’s from my office. I live in an amazing area with tons of places to explore during the weekend so every chance I get I’m up for adventure time.

My dog Finn is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. AKC and NAVHD registered, from JX kennels in Great Falls, MT. Born February 12th 2017.
